I'm sorry, but, this gets right to the heart of the matter. Consistency and not making up the rules as you go. If it really says no carry on, then by God, get all of the crap out of the pockets before push back. Don't selectively enforce the rules and don't make up your own interpretations.

You are splitting hairs now.....we specifically say "carry-on bags/luggage." A laptop falls into this category in or out of the carry case. Consistency is not the issue here. We go thru the cabin and we do our best to find unsafe items, but you would be surprised at how many passengers hide stuff; iPods, cell phones they are still talking on, gameboys, PDA's that they are "just finishing up and email" on, and the list goes on.
I refer to my previous post..."just say "ok" and turn it off.
