I've had this exact same thing happen to me on three occasions this year. All involved a change to the flight, in my case 15K UG awards being applied, that resulted in the the booking class changing. It turns out that in each instance the TA had to get the ticket reissued. If AA had pushed through the reticketing/revalidating I would have been fine.
