Departing from the Fellison Terminal in IJmuiden, The Netherlands, the clipper sailing ship Stad Amsterdam will sail the North Sea for an entire day on 7 July 2002. First past the Forte island, then out to sea. Depending on the direction of the wind, the captain will set the optimum course along the Dutch coastline. The Stad Amsterdam is a sailing ship built in the tradition of the 19th-century clipper ships. It combines elegance and history with sporting fun. Classic lines and it sails up to 17 knots. The clipper ship offers catering and a crew who will be happy to answer questions. On the clipper you can assist the crew in sailing the ship and you will receive detailed explanation on steering, navigation and raising and lowering the sails. Or you simply sit back and enjoy the views, or quietly read a book on the quarterdeck.
