This is wrong. I just booked B to SCL for the Labour Day weekend. It is 10% non-refundable. 10K each way, no co-pay.

This is as "deep" as BA and this is the 3rd flight in 3 years on this B6XXCL fare. Not once had copay or otherwise even entered the discussion.
You don't honestly think that the big AA computer looks at B down to the fare code details, do you?
BTW CDN $1600 US$1415 all-in, 18,000 EQP's. 24,000 earned miles minus 20,000 to upgrade, come home with 4,000 more than when I left.
