The AA B fares are upgradable with 10,000 miles - even B fares with some restrictions.
I'm certain Rick would know, as I can't imagine there are many with as much experience traveling on internation B fares, particularly to South America. That said, I have confirmation from very reliable sources that all B fares are upgradable for 10,000 miles.
