As a baked bean connoisseur from the U.K. who now lives in Canada I can assure you that this is the case. Even a cursory glance would convince anyone that they are not the same since the British ones are a much brighter orange.
BTW You can get the 'real' (i.e. British) ones in Belize - don't know where those are made though
