As a native Austinite, I've never stayed there but have stayed at the semi-new Hilton downtown which I think is excellent. Try there next time if need to. Also, there is the brand new Courtyard/Residence Inn opening in a month or two if you want to stay loyal to Marriott.

And I can't help but want to defend Austin a little, give it a chance! It's a great city.
