China is quite hard to travel from if you want to travel "FIT" (as an independent traveler). The problem here in on China's side, not on the foreign side. As of mid-05, HK and Macao were the only FIT-approved destinations, and I'm sure even today the US is not a FIT destination despite the protests of the US embassy.
