If we'd nabbed those ROP b*stards on 9/10 we'd have seen the same kinds of articles about barely trained middle aged Saudi men being able to take the planes and fly them into something.

If the only plane they'd taken was the flight 83 into the ground then the usual leftie suspects, including but not limited to CAIR, Hollywood, the Democrat party, the wingnut wing of the Republican party (to be fair), and the MSM would have made sure that the meme was that it was a tragic accident or a one-off problem.

If Richard Reed had gotten drunk, passed out, and had explosive spill from his shoes during screening then we'd still be wearing shoes through security.

My point, in a wandering way, is that as a society we are so post-modern, deconstructionist, and risk aversive that it takes something very serious to make us over-react.
