What he means is just that... Continental says it's some number of miles from say Miami to Newark but KLM says it's something else and will give you that. Even on flights where Continental has no clue (like an Intra-Europe flight) it will show something different than the KLM distance (or NW as KLM often gives minimum 750 miles now).
