This happened a few times:

When I tried to screen my preferred flights and options, Aeroplan website spreaded out the worst and least unfriendly combinations, when ALL flights and seats were available. It simply does not allow you to pick the preferred departure flight, or the preferred return flight.

I just do not know why they design the website this way.
