FD zone system and examples of flights in zones A up to T

As a result of the KL ‘100% match of miles’ promotion a number of new members joins the FD programme. There is a need for clarification on service points to be earned and award points needed for an award flight. This is No 1 of a series of nine topics posted describing all about the FD programme.

In the FD programme points needed for awards are calculated per one-way, direct flight. Also points earned are calculated per one-way, direct flight. KL uses tables indicating zones A up to T. There is a link between the distance one-way, direct flight and the zone a specific flight is set to.

The points needed for an award per one way direct flight are the same for all FD members, irrespective of country of residence.

The following examples take AMS as departure airport. Specific flights with KL partners (NW, UK, XT, AS, BU, JD, KQ, LP, HV, MH, 9W) are in the same structure. The examples are from the 1 November 2001 Flying Dutchman program brochure. The table is rather complete but not exhaustive. For instance CO flights are not mentioned.
