often this error is if you are somehow being a Firewall, either in a router, or network that blocks this port.

once you have your finderID, plug it into this URL to see if the slingbox finder service can SEE the box, if it has sucessfully called out

replace the id= with your ID and then check it. If the finder service comes back with an external IP address and then port, you know the box is calling out correctly.

I would make sure you have some port forwarding setup on the router at home, to the 5001 that you are using. As well, if you setup the port to port 443, it gets around most firewall issues at remote locations better.
