Will be a cold day in hell before I ever check my records/cds in the hold again and subject them to baggage thieves and damage. It is just as well I am not flying much at the moment really.

I personally know several 'A' list widely known international Djs who have had cds/records go walkies due to this current stupid policy flying from the uk with reduced carry on allowances.
Usually they take them on board and have no checked luggage both for security and speed reasons- now they cant, as the permitted tiny bag is just big enough to avoid checking their laptop, but wont fit their records or cd cases in.
Great when its the tools of your trade and you are flying literally every day to another gig
