You guess right.

For some (perhaps all) one class flights in competitive markets, KL gives business points. This includes STN-AMS.

This is one reason why I prefer to travel from STN, though it has to be said that KL/UK service both in the terminal and on board has reduced in quality in the past couple of years.

When it comes to redeeming points, the economy rate is charged, so you gain both ways.
