If your ticket includes a stopover in CDG, you can do that (= O next to Paris rather than X on your ticket). If you only have a connection ticketed, odds are slim to none from my perspective that someone will date change the ticket at all, since the addition of a stopover technically is a change in routing requiring a full reissue.
AF happily did that for me and a friend had his itinerary changed too. I originally had LAX-BUD but now I have LAX-CDG-BUD with a one month stopover in CDG
(easier to get back home from there..)
