This is just one reason why I have flown for several years with both foam earplugs and my BOSE headphones on all flights. The foam plugs filter out the loud noise (engines, babies, seat opponents who won't shut up and endless announcements on the PA - especially when the PA is turned up way too loud) and the BOSE white out any remaining din. Heaven.
