a) I agree with the policy to avoid lounge overcrowding
b) the 20% discount voucher considerably made up, because we could enjoy full poolside lunches at a discount rather than figuring out where to eat after an appetizer in the lounge.
Overall enjoyed the stay and helpful staff. I was happy though to get this at the old CAT 3 award rates. Looking to the future it is overrated as a CAT 6
I actually did get access in the end, as I had written to the hotel several months ago to ask about Diamond benefits, and had an email from the reception confirming access to the lounge even if I am not upgraded. They did not believe me at first that they had said this- but I happened to have my laptop with me, containing the required email.
The lounge is superb, and really the highlight of the hotel for me. I would advise paying a supplement to get access. The lounge includes an outdoor pool which is quiet and very pleasant - as well as snacks and drinks free of charge at poolside. Overall, I was very impressed with the hotel - preferred it to the Cavalieri - especially at Cat 3 rates...
The limit on lounge access does make sense, as it can be hard to get a lounger up there if the exec levels are full, and it is not really fair to paying guests to prevent them access.
