Don't mis-understand me; I'm not objecting in any way, but this is the first time I've been left with a drink (in a glass) at landing. I've seen it happen on a F flight back tot LHR from JNB in Jan, but assumed this was an oversight on the part of the crew.
Is this accepted procedure, or was it a (pleasant) lapse in protocol?

Absolutely! ^
If this is not appearing to be offered on your flight or you still have quite a lot left to drink before landing always ask for a plastic glass if they don't seem very forthcoming with a plastic glass.
Occasionally you might get lucky and they let you keep the glass and bottle, however I would prefer to see a plastic cup offered rather than nothing at all.
Its little touches like this they should implement more in Club Europe as it really does differentiate it from Eurotraveller, especially on shorter routes. Furthermore its a nice bit of marketing for they product - especially when they tie the curtain back and notice everyone in club is still drinking.
