I would actually suggest checking with the concierge in Newark when you depart. They will call ahead to the MAD concierge, who can then be prepared with lounge access passes. As far as showers, many of CO's BF shower facilities are in hotels that are off the airport premises. I think this might be the case with MAD, at least I think it was 2 years ago (but could easily have changed). With a 4 hour layover that shouldn't be a problem, though.
