Yes, they really care. As silly as some rules seem to all of us, it is more offensive for a pax to bring on a prohibited item, knowing full well that it is prohibited, and force us to be the "bad guy" by enforcing the rules. If we don't enforce to rules, we are the ones called to the carpet.
