Also, and I may be mistaken, but I thought that the shops in the airport were actually run by BAA under license from M&S, etc, etc? At least all the employees seemed to have the BAA name badges, the registers were all the same, etc. In some shops (Churches, Bally) the employees were clearly Organization people, but still with BAA badges.
Does anyone know how that all works?
You'll find an explanation by me of the contractural arrangements for the shops in post #13 above in this thread. The staff have BAA badges to show their security clearance. That's the same security clearance that seemingly is always being delayed or held up for screeners, and is blamed for any shortage of them ........
Regarding the moving walkways, many of us regulars there are aware that the maintenance of these has been low priority for years, myself I cannot recall the last time I went in a way that requires several walkways (such as from the Underground station to the far end of T3) without finding one, and typically two or three, out of service. And I am in professional contact with the contractors who maintain the terminal structure and the mechanical/electrical services there. One approach only : minimise all cost.
