U class fares are the second-lowest fare bucket (only T is lower), and while I can't comment on Brazil-US flights, U inventory isn't that hard to find for domestic travel if you plan ahead and aren't going in peak season. With U fares, any change will cost $50 plus fare difference, much like any other restricted ticket.
