I've been to SYD many times, always on UA, both in UD C and in F. I also recently (Feb 2006) flew from FRA to IAD in UD F on LH. Of the three experiences, by FAR the best was the LH F. We got up at some ungodly hour, maybe 4am, in Torino coming back from the Olympics. We flew LH to FRA and arrived at 630am. IAD flight was at 1pm. We wandered from IFL to IFL, several of which were "full". The Matron/Angel at one of the LH F lounges suggested we go to "the First Class Terminal". "The what?" I asked. I had never heard of FT or the FCT. Many beers, great food, a nap, and a limo ride later, we were on the UD. 82A and B, I believe. That was by far the best upper deck experience I can imagine.

Going to SYD, however, you really appreciate the flat bed -- and I have to say IME the UA F service is really outstanding, very close to the LH F service.

One idea (400k miles per person though) is to get a F *A RTW award. Fly LH from LAX to FRA in UD F, stop over for a day or two then LH on to PEK. Arrive early to enjoy the FCT. Then take SQ to SYD via SIN (with a stopover), hang out in SYD for a few days, then pop back home to LAX -- UA F. There you have it, the best of LH UD, SQ, and UA F. Be sure to pre order the Lobster Thermidor on SQ if you're on an evening flight!

Either way you won't be disappointed!
