There used to be a day when interisland fares were only $35 roundtrip, and cheaper even before my time. Your quoted price sounds steep, but it is the normal price. Both Aloha and Hawaiian Airlines raised their prices and abolished the coupon system. You can read about the change in fares here: http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/ar.../bz/bz04a.html

The basic change is:
"Hawaiian, Aloha fare change highlights
Interisland fares will be based on seats available on a flight. Ticket prices are $67, $75 or $85.

The more seats available, the more likely the lowest fare will be offered.

Booking in advance may get you a seat on the flight you want, but will not guarantee a cheaper price.

Hawaiian's fares for Lana'i and Moloka'i travel and two-segment connecting flights are higher."

So book early! And no the Pacific Ocean is not a *puddle* that we jump... if we could jump it, that'd make interisland traveling a bit more easier.

Edit: Also, JAL has direct flights from NRT if you're interested. Would allow you to bypass the 40 minute interisland flight from HNL to KOA.
