Fuel Surcharge is now considered as YQ charge, not Q charge?
I just bought the most expensive United ticket, and noticed that USD180 of fuel surcharge has been calculated as YQ charge. Has anyone noticed or is it already discussed in this forum? The fare that ITA quoted didn't add USD180 to the total fare that I was going to get, so I thought that the fare was reasonably low. Now that I actually purchased the ticket and got the fare calculation, I realize that putting fuel surcharge as YQ charge is deceptive as it is posted under tax. Holy cow, the base fare was about USD900, but the tax was USD300, which is one third of the base fare. Irritating, hasn't the U.S. federal regulation required fuel surcharge to be charged as Q charge? Moreover, there was additional ticketing fee of USD15.
BTW, it's an 8-segment trip and the agent asked me if it was a mileage run. Would anyone pay USD1200 for 16,000 miles in economy as a mileage run in the world?
