I have however had locks break off. The fix for this one was to get locks that use a cable.
So now I have locks with cables (no solid steel U). Next, I need to find TSA proof locks (with cables) because every so often, the TSA goons seem to love jamming the cable in the wrong way- this effectively breaks the lock as it can no longer be unlocked. Since (unlike solid locks) cable locks cannot be bent or twisted off, they're a major pain in the butt to get take off.
I'd guess it just goes to show; nothing is idiot proof to the sufficently determined idiot.
hmmmm going to have to check on those. We typically use shrouded locks like
these and
these with case-hardened bodies, shackle shrouds and hardened boron alloy shackles to secure weapons and ammo inside their cases. So, the flimsy non-TSA lock on the outer bag does nothing to protect the contents, just there to make sure the zippers stay shut and provide a visual cue as to whether I need to check the bag for missing items right away.
