That'd make things more convenient a little bit, but not scrapping this restriction entirely is irrational. It's not like someone pouring liquids/gels in a doubled ziplog bags tucked into their pants/socks, taped onto their legs or near their rear-end/groin will get caught under the current procedures at US airports.
