Several years ago on a flight from Brussels, we were first upgraded to Business Class without being asked, and after 4 or so hours on the tarmac came home to find 9000 miles placed in each of our two accounts. I believe a letter came soon after apologizing for the delay and letting us know about the miles. I would think it would be done without any aadvantage member on that flight.
