Narrative: The (Air Canada) Jazz Air Limited Partnership Bombardier CL-600-2D15 (705) Regional Jet aircraft (C-GNJZ, operating as JZA8471) was on a scheduled IFR flight from Ottawa (M-CIA) (CYOW) to Winnipeg International Airport (CYWG). The aircraft departed runway 25 at 1042Z. At 1120Z, while north of the Killaloe VOR, the flight crew elected to divert back to Ottawa (M-CIA) and, when handed off to the Tower Controller, declared an emergency due to smoke in the cockpit. The aircraft landed at 1126Z and taxied short of the gate. The passengers were evacuated after the engine were shut down. Three (3) people were injured during the evacuation. Ops. impact -- unknown.
