As mentioned in my original post, I DID feel awkward. I would NOT have been a happy camper if I had a boarding pass taken away from me or asked to move to Y after I had been given a J boarding pass. At no point in our conversation, did I ask for any special consideration from the gate agent.
I am not sure if the agent at the gate felt
OBLIGED because it was an AC error that only one of us had been waitlisted (eventhough we had 2 boarding passes saying standby) OR he was giving us
preferential treatment because we were both Elites!! I suspect that it is the former and he felt that had both of us been waitlisted correctly, we would have both cleared.
