The food court is a good place to stretch/watch the early flight folks. Also, my teenagers sometimes like the exhibit along the first stretch of walkways...but they have never been there that early.
If you are arriving on another United flight, they could also park it next to your arrival gate.
An update on how things worked out-
They arrived at SFO in one piece, and my once-in-a-while bold daughter, who I'd told couldn't get into the RCC on a domestic F flight but thought tht shouldn't be the case so she tried anyway... she went in and was very quickly turned down, as expected. By me, not her.
So they hung around the gate area and were quite happy (and tired) to see us 1 hour, 45 minutes later. They said the airport was pretty dead when they arrived, but sprung to life in pretty short order. Certainly no problem hanging around in that area... I'm sure, as long as your flight arrives in the same terminal, there'd never be an issue.
