I'd second wine country. Things slow down up there that time of year, but it can be really beautiful. If you go to Napa, skip route 29 and drive (or bike) up the Silverado Trail which basically parallels 29. It's a very scenic drive and you can easily stop in at some of the finest wineries in the world.
