I'll be compiling a wiki entry on this subject, as AA.com is lacking inportant infomation (imagine that!), but not all the info is available in FT.

Specifically, the threads I was able to find talk about 50% off domestic "B" fares, which are no longer offered.

Also, I couldn't find a consensus on international fares.

Finally, I couldn't find any info on what specifically qualifies for the "compassion" fares, other than the following wording on AA.com: "Customers must meet certain qualifications and provide specific information to obtain the compassion fare." -- very useful, uh?
