I don't know how long he was employed by Securicor/G4S and how frequent those "background checks" are conducted. I do know that the British government had his name on a "to research" sort of list going back for quite a while in relation to either this or another investigation -- but it was more at the "periphery" than at the "core". I'm still trying to find out if he had happened to volunteer in Pakistan after the earthquake killed people there and in India. Apparently a lot of the people that are suspects -- including a number that are likely to be released without charges & convictions -- did go to Pakistan to help with relief efforts. What else they did there and who they met up with is a different matter.
Still, it does raise the question about the policy of subjecting all passengers, who have casual contact with aircraft operations, to invasive and intrusive screening while being so sloppy about airline employees.
