But if the real concern is that he's scared of the miles expiring, make sure you know that ANY activity in the account will reset the clock. So he could get an AA credit card with bonus points, test drive a lincoln (if that's still going on, do a search) or any one of a million different things just to get some miles deposited. I'd recommend fatwallet.com as a great place to find some methods for earning a few AA miles.
I don't think this is a question about expiring miles. The OP clearly stated that the miles are good until next year, so there is no rush at the moment.
I believe this is an indirect question about "buying miles" and not from AA..
Is it ok? NO! AAdvantage T&Cs specifically forbid this practice. If caught, the passenger looses the ticket and the seller may loose the FF account. Could it be done? It probably happens every day.
I would be very careful.....
