Santorini/Hydra/Ferries in Greece

I have done a search in the forum and found 2 Santorini hotel recommendations (one in Fira and one in Oia) but they date back quite a few years (I wrote to both of them and am awating their response). There is also the possibility of the Starwood Luxury place but it is relatively far from everything and has no view of the caldera.

I gather there is no specific Santorini hotel catering to the GLBT crowd.

I arrive in Santorini on Thursday, 9/28/06 staying 4 nights til 10/2/06.

As my plans are relatively tentative, I am hesitant to make firm hotel reservations and/or ferry reservations (there is a big hassle cancelling). The ferries have a capacity of over 1,000 people and I can’t imagine that @ that time of year, they would be oversold. Wrong?

Also, when traveling on the ferries, what is the difference between basic economy, glorified economy and business class? I don’t think that I will be seated very much as I will want to take it the views but perhaps I am missing something.

Your thoughts on afternoon ferries or those which depart @ the crack of dawn?

Finally, am considering an overnight stay in Hydra. Your counsel?

In advance, I appreciate any shared words of wisdom.
