I call 3 days before.. even to AC when I have a paperticket from Thai or Asiana. If you check the "checkmybooking" link and it says "unticketed" (for the Air Canada flights anyway), its a good clue that all may not be right.

It takes only a minute - or better yet, I have the hotel concierge (if I am in a non-english speaking land flying a non english speaking airline) do it for me.
