Sometimes I call each individual airline on my itinerary and ask "can you tell me if my travel agent [or other airline who did the booking] has ticketed this reservation yet?"

If the airline don't have a ticket number on file, they'll probably tell you "we don't know as your travel agent [or other airline] hasn't sent the ticket number yet..."
