Is there no contingency plan? Why couldn't they ask passengers to carry the bags to the gate themselves and then have someone to take them down from there to the tarmac for loading on the plane? I recall several years ago, the same thing happened at LHR when I was there and that was what BAA did.
If passengers did that then the bags would not be x-rayed. Plus imagine the delays at security- not exactly a well oiled machine at the best of times.
Have you voiced your concerns to the GTAA?
