Sorry, I realise that alone might not be too helpful .

In Edmonton, you might think about visiting Whyte Avenue/Old Strathcona, which is also known as 82nd St. There are a lot of interesting shops and a cool feel to the place. The farmer's market, held Saturday mornings and a few days throughout the week, is also worth a look.

Depending on the weekend, you will probably hit one festival or another. Edmonton has Klondike Days, a Fringe Festival, Heritage Days, and a Street Performer's festival (among many others). These can be really great events and well worth seeing.

Of course, you could always keep your plastic warm at the (still?) largest shopping centre on earth, West Edmonton Mall.

I don't know much about the gay nightlife in Edmonton, though, sorry.
