Somewhat upthread, someone had mentioned Stonehenge as a day trip, and suggested doing it yourself instead of going with a package tour. I tend to dislike package tours, but I was considering one for this, since it seemed like it wasn't particular easy to get to Stonehenge from London without renting a car. Before getting as far as that question, is Stonehenge the only thing you want to see? The general opinion, whenever the question is asked, seems to be that it is not worth the trek from London just to Stonehenge. It takes quite a long time, and the reward is not worth it. Obviously, some people are dying to see Stonehenge and would junk many other things just to get there, but for most it really isn't special enough to be a trip on its own. It's definitely worthwhile if you're in the area, or if you have a list of other things in that neck of the woods that you want to see which would in total make the journey worthwhile.
