*MANDATORY* Shoe carnival ORD T2 Bart!!

HEY BART!! Can you please explain this?

From the TSA web site TODAY:
*******
You don’t have to remove your shoes before you enter the walk-through metal detector. However, our Security Officers may encourage you to remove your shoes before entering the metal detector based on the fact that many types of footwear have to be additionally screened – even if the metal detector does not alarm. Believe it or not, shoes can be used to carry prohibited items, and if a Security Officer encourages you to remove your shoes, please do. If you refuse, you may subject yourself to additional screening and delays.
*******

The reality:

ORD T2, 7:00 AM Friday morning, the WTMD barker says "You MUST remove your shoes." I smile and tell her "I'll take the secondary, thanks" as I always do. NEVER a problem before. She says "If your shoes don't come off, you don't fly." I show her the printout of the TSA web site that says "You don’t have to remove your shoes before you enter the walk-through metal detector. " She gives me this look like I just called her mother a whore and shouts "CSS!" and this supervisor comes over. She says "He won't remove his shoes" and walks off in a snit. The supervisor (Thomasz Janowski #1888) says "Sir all shoes must come off." I show him the TSA web site printout that says "You don’t have to remove your shoes before you enter the walk-through metal detector. " dated TODAY.

He says "I am sorry, thees ees wrong information. If you don't take shoes off, you do not fly today."

I take my shoes off and toss them into the X-ray as every TSA white shirt gives me the death glare.

Bart, you always manage to rationally explain things that we don't understand and tell us when TSA people are just plain wrong. I know the TSA is capable of updating its website in real time, they had the new travel restrictions on there at 7AM yesterday. You ask us to have respect for the organization, yet it blatantly and with absolute implunity violates its own stated and restated regulations over and over again.

I got the official O'Hare complaint form, but I ask you: What has to happen for the TSA and its tin-hitler supervisors to STOP violating its own rules? Who does a traveler ask for to get them to follow the SOP and their own PUBLICLY STATED POLICY?? If this is actually a new policy, why hasn't it been stated in all of the new rules that have been WIDELY distibuted and managed to get widely distributed in a matter of hours yesterday? Why didn't Chertoff mention this yesterday when he was explaining that the TSA's new primary goal is to save us all from having a tube of Blistex bring down a 737? Any other governmental entity would be under court order to behave and follow its own rules. Did the cocnstitutional protections of "due process of law" suddently come with an exemption for the TSA?

I eagerly await what I am quite certain will be another learned, rational and informative explanation. because right now I can't for the life of me understand why this outfit is allowed to continue like this.
