It appears you are correct (the charge just showed up on my AMEX) I was confused because This text was shown through out the booking, including confirmation & the top of the confirmation email:
ACTUAL PAYMENT FOR PASSENGER TICKET
FARE: USD 893 TAX/surcharge: USD 53
TOTAL PAYMENT: USD 946
except this came at the very end of the confirmation email (in very small point text):
FARE :USD 795.00 EQ :
TAX : 7.00XY TAX : 5.00YC TAX : 189.00XT
TOTAL :USD 996.00
which left me decidely confused.
