That warren known as central Naples is the home of Neapolitan pizza, but it looks really dangerous. Small streets, locked churches, poor people peddling junk on the sidewalks, petty criminals circulating, lookouts with cell phones. Organized crime's effect on society is palpable. There's also a layer of religious conservativism, to help suppress dissenting opinions. Naples has Pompeii, Herculaneum, and the museum with the big statues. Everything else is overrated and can be seen elsewhere, without the danger.
