It's historical and nostalgic, isn't it? To take away the sting of (yet another) British car maker becoming absorbed into a huge multinational company.
Same thing in Australia: GM sells under the Holden brand, even though some of the cars are "world cars". For example, I think the current Holden Barina is just what we know in Europe as the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa.
