The tail is made of carbon fibers in glue!

After hitting the wake of another plane after the FAA shortened the take-off interval distance, the pilot overcompensated on the rudder causing the tail to snap off. This might have been the pilots fault entirely. Or one might consider it to have happened due to the fact that the tail is not constructed of steel, or even metal, but is pieces of carbon fiber marinated in epoxy glue. This construction requires careful examination by x-ray of the fibers for flaws and gaps but the x-rays cannot detect all of the flaws even at their best.

My question is: Knowing this, which is what is reported in the press, why would anyone choose to fly on a plane whose tail is not made of steel?
