you'll notice that mr. mineta did nothing to help clarify the current "standards" and spell out to travellers and security personnel just what should be done. so for the time being you can expect the power hungry ex-burger flipper at your local airport to take away your nail clippers, and to have your i.d. checked time after time, by people who don't have a clue what they are looking for.

my wife and i just got back from europe. CO trasocean, AF intra-europe. AF was consistent at all points. I.D. at check in, uniformed police officer in the jetway checking ID again before boarding. My wifes passport is in her maiden name, but the back page of the passport was endorsed to show her name change. the europeans knew to look, but not one american questioned why my wifes passport did not match her name. flipped it open looked at the picture waved us on. they just don't get it....
