First class catering on long day flights

I've had a few flights in CW lately and haven't really been impressed with the food. Tastes fine, but the hot main course component is so tiny. Had a seared beef fillet with pepper sauce the other day LHR-BWI, and the meat could only be described as a nugget. Next time I'll take advantage of the T4 Gate 1 lounge catering which is actually very good - stir fries, salad, soup, hot filled rolls and more. Anyway, that flight was on a 777.
My previous flight SFO-LHR on a 747 last year had more substantial catering I recall. Last week, on my return from BWI on a 767, the steak was even smaller, one mouthful really. Thank goodness they don't do CW in 737s!

But I forgive all this because for me CW is all about the seat, which I sleep in easily, and it makes the flight go relatively quickly.

That's by way of preamble. Thanx to an Amex 241 I'm off to Brazil in Dec-Jan for my birthday, Christmas and New Year and to meet the in-laws. Down in F and back in J. It's the first time in F for both of us (the other half doesn't know, so it should be a nice surprise), and it's the new day flight that leaves just after noon and gets in mid evening.

Don't panic!! Not a seat question. BTW, we have 2AK, moved from the middle 2 in Row 4.

Anyway, what sort of catering would I expect on a 12 hour day flight like that? The web site says the menu will be served "at a time to suit you", but does that mean they do it twice, ie for lunch and then a more substantial dinner say 6 or 7 hours later? Or do they tend to do just one main meal and snacks at other times? Basically, will we be stuffed, or should we fill up in the lounge before hand?

Cheers and thanx, James
