For example, my strategy is to use FF miles to buy F/J long-haul international for my leisure trips, which saves me real money. So, to me SPG points seem to have the best "value" given their transferability and associated transfer bonus... or arent they?

Having searched before posting, Im aware of this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=569911) but its specific to a few properties and not broadly based, and didnt want to hijack the thread by posting it there...
Mod, feel free to move it wherever you see fit.
As someone pointed out in one of the previous postings, it all depends what you want to get.

Hyatt and Marriott have Lifetime programs, so once you reach a certain level you don't have to stay 50-75 nights and/or do any matress runs. Also both Marriott and Hyatt offer free breakfasts to their elite members. Hilton and Starwood, as far as I know, offer free breakfast only if there is a Club/Lounge at the hote.
